2021 Auditions
SUNDAY 17TH JANUARY & SUNDAY 24TH JANUARY
We’re looking for passionate young dancers.
Twenty-five of them to be exact.
And these dancers? They’ll make up our 2021 company and, together, will dance in three seasons of shows and grow together as both artists and young humans.
Spark is the place for any young dancer looking at a career in dance but it is also the place for those dancers who take classes on the weekends. The dancers who want to find more in dance. Who are curious about the arts and what it can bring. We’ll let you in on a Spark secret; it’s not just the dance experience that we offer. It is the experience of being part of a huge family the second you step into the studio - a family that welcomes you even long after you’ve finished your Spark journey.

Seniors (12-25) 3.00pm - 4.15pm
Q&A with Alice Topp from 4.15pm - 4.45pm after the audition class! (Juniors will have Q&A time within their audition class.)

Requirements:
- Must be currently enrolled in a dance school
- Must have at least 1 year experience in any dance genre

Three Performance Seasons.
Season of Short Works
TERM 1: FEB - APRIL (PERFORMANCES IN SCHOOL HOLIDAYS)
You’ll dance in the world premieres of one or two new dance works choreographed by one of our up-and-coming young creators. Dancers will gain valuable ground work experience in contemporary dance technique as well as an introduction to basic production and stagecraft skills. Rehearsals each Sunday in Term 1 will culminate in an exciting season of performances (usually three shows) to an audience or in the event of COVID restrictions, livestreamed online.
It is this season of new works each year where many of our dancers often realise that contemporary dance is their favourite genre.
Victorian Tour of ‘Snow and Rose’
TERM 2: APRIL - JUNE (PERFORMANCES FOR TWO WEEKS IN JUNE)
You’ll dance in the world premieres of one or two new dance works choreographed by one of our up-and-coming young creators. Dancers will gain valuable ground work experience in contemporary dance technique as well as an introduction to basic production and stagecraft skills. Rehearsals each Sunday in Term 1 will culminate in an exciting season of performances (usually three shows) to an audience or in the event of COVID restrictions, livestreamed online.

New Full-Length Story Dance Work
TERM 3: JULY - SEPTEMBER (PERFORMANCES IN SEPTEMBER SCHOOL HOLIDAYS)
This will be a brand new full-length work featuring a live professional orchestra performed at Frankston Arts Centre. It will involve an original storyline in Spark’s signature style and new choreography by Alex Dellaportas. Dancers will also have the chance to apply to be a choreographer in this season.
Rehearsals will be every Sunday for at least 2-3 hours depending on casting - rehearsal times will lengthen closer to the show premiere dates.
Young people, guided by young people.
It’s important to us that our dancers also have young mentors and leaders within the company to guide, inspire and represent them and their ideas.
Founder, Director and young person herself, Alex Dellaportas, is at the forefront of all projects at Spark. She brings six years of experience directing young people in her signature style full-length dance works and a wealth of passion and knowledge around youth mental health and wellbeing. Alex will be by your side throughout your entire Spark journey, supported by a team of young creatives and young leaders from our Youth Advisory Board and Production Streams.
Supporting Alex and our youth are a team of highly experienced individuals on our Board - all passionate about different aspects of the arts.

The audition process:
Register online & pay audition fee of $20
Wait for an email from us confirming the date and time
Arrive on audition day and participate in a 1 hour 15 min contemporary class
Audition results will be sent out the day after our last audition day
